It’s simple, cozy, and feels downright special—whether you’re winding down on a cool fall night or mixing drinks for a holiday gathering.

Honey Rosemary Bourbon with orange peels and rosemary in The Grain Shed Pub

This post was originally shared October 18, 2023, and updated September 21, 2025, with fresh photos, clearer instructions, and extra tips for success.

This one is smooth, simple, and easy enough to make on a weeknight, but elegant enough to impress guests.

Around here, most cocktail testing happens in The Grain Shed, our rustic backyard pub and the heart of our homestead gatherings. This one is a keeper: rich bourbon, sweet honey, a hint of bitters, and just enough rosemary to make it unforgettable.

🍯 Honey + Rosemary Syrup in a Bourbon Cocktail – A Homestead Favorite

We keep bees here on our homestead, so honey shows up in a lot of our recipes. Pairing it with rosemary (one of my favorite herbs) just makes sense. Together they create a syrup that’s sweet, herbal, and perfect for cocktails like this one.

Whether you’re mixing drinks for a quiet evening by the fire, hosting friends in your backyard pub, or looking for a festive holiday bourbon drink, this Honey Rosemary Bourbon Cocktail is one you’ll make again and again.

Cheers
Yvonne

🍯 Honey Rosemary Bourbon Cocktail FAQs

    1. Can I make the honey rosemary syrup ahead of time?

Yes! You can make the syrup up to a week in advance and store it in a sealed jar in the fridge. The flavor actually deepens after a day or two.

    2. What type of bourbon works best for this cocktail?

Any good-quality bourbon you enjoy sipping will work. Basil Hayden and Woodford Reserve are great choices. If you prefer something spicier, swap in rye whiskey.

    3. Can I make this cocktail without alcohol?

Absolutely. Skip the bourbon and mix the honey rosemary syrup with club soda and a dash of bitters (or just sparkling water for a lighter version).

    4. How do I make this cocktail for a party?

You can batch it by multiplying the ingredients and mixing everything except the ice and garnishes in a pitcher. Stir well before serving and add fresh ice, rosemary sprigs, and orange peels to each glass.

    5. Can I use dried rosemary instead of fresh?

Fresh rosemary gives the best flavor, but if you only have dried, use about 1 teaspoon in the syrup and strain well.

    6. What other cocktails can I make with honey rosemary syrup?

It’s delicious in gin and tonics, whiskey sours, vodka spritzers, or even stirred into iced tea or lemonade.

    7. Can I make this cocktail fizzy?

Yes! Just add a splash of club soda to turn it into a Honey Rosemary Bourbon Fizz.
